# Editing Dates and Reviewing Schedule Impact

You can change the dates of work items from the *Planning* tab of a project using the date editor. When you move a work item that other items depend on, the **Review Schedule Impact** window shows which items will move so you can confirm the change before it is saved.

To open the date editor, click the calendar icon in a **Start Date** or **End Date** cell. Each field in the date editor is defined below.

| Label | Definition |
| --- | --- |
| **Start Date** | The date the work item starts. |
| **End Date** | The date the work item ends. |
| **Duration** | The length of the work item in days. Enter numbers only. Changing the duration keeps the start date and moves the end date, which becomes the start date plus the duration minus one day, so a duration of 1 is a one-day item. Phases and tickets need a duration of at least 2 days, and a shorter value is ignored. |
| **Calendars** | Two months are shown side by side. Click a date to select it, and use the arrows to move between months. The selected range is highlighted. |
| **Clear** | Removes the dates from the work item. |

Follow these steps to change a work item's dates.

1. Click the calendar icon in the **Start Date** or **End Date** cell for the work item.
2. Select the new dates on the calendars, type them in the date fields, or enter a new **Duration**.
3. If there are no schedule impacts, the change will be automatically saved.

If other work items depend on the item you moved, the **Review Schedule Impact** window opens before the change is saved. This also happens when you drag a ticket bar in the Gantt chart. Each part of the window is defined below.

| Label | Definition |
| --- | --- |
| Summary | The work item you moved and its new dates, and the number of other items that will move as a result. |
| Project end | Shows how the end of the project's schedule changes, such as "Project end Nov 6, 2026 → Nov 13, 2026" when the latest item end moves, or "Project end unchanged" when it does not. |
| Warning | An orange message that appears when the change would push a phase past its planned end date. |
| Affected items | Each work item that will move, with its current dates and its new dates. |
| **Move Items** | Saves the change and moves the affected items. The button shows how many items will move, such as **Move 2 Items**. |
| **Cancel** | Closes the window without saving anything. The work item returns to its previously saved dates, and a ticket bar in the Gantt chart snaps back to its original position. |

| NOTE: The project end line reports the end of the last scheduled work item. It does not change the **Project End** date in the project header, which you set yourself and which the review never updates. |
| --- |

| IMPORTANT: Dragging a task, milestone, or phase bar in the Gantt chart saves the new dates without opening **Review Schedule Impact**, and items that depend on it do not move. To have linked items follow, change the dates from the planning list or the drawer. |

Applying a schedule review requires the project update permission. See the [Managing Work Item Dependencies](https://help.psarev.io/en/article/managing-work-item-dependencies) article for more information about linking work items.
